TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint disorder, which affects the joint connecting your jaw to your skull. TMJ can cause jaw pain, clicking sounds, headaches, and difficulty opening or closing your mouth.
Botox can be an effective treatment for TMJ by relaxing the jaw muscles responsible for clenching and grinding. When injected into the masseter and temporalis muscles, Botox helps reduce tension, alleviate pain, and restore normal jaw function. It’s particularly beneficial for patients who suffer from bruxism (teeth grinding) and have not found relief through traditional dental approaches.
Some people may experience mild pain or tenderness at the injection site. Rare side effects include difficulty chewing or temporary facial asymmetry, which typically resolve within a few weeks.
