Caudal Epidural

A caudal epidural injection involves injecting medication into the epidural space in the lower back, through a small opening at the base of the spine.

What Is a Caudal Epidural?

This procedure can help relieve back and leg pain, particularly pain associated with inflammation and irritation of nerve roots. Patients can resume activities as tolerated soon after the procedure. The local anesthetic works immediately to numb the pain and the steroid takes about 24-48 hours to take effect.

What Conditions Can This Help Treat?

Caudal epidural injections are often used to treat pain caused by conditions like lumbar spinal stenosis, herniated discs, or sciatica, where nerve roots are compressed or irritated. For some, multiple injections may be needed to keep the pain away.
