IV ketamine infusion therapy uses low doses of ketamine to quickly reduce the symptoms of mental health conditions, such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
At Jacobs Pain Centre in Toronto, mental health–focused ketamine services are provided through our affiliated clinic, Ketamind Health.
Treatment is delivered in a monitored clinical setting under the supervision of our doctors.
IV ketamine therapy can be considered for those experiencing:
Ketamine has been approved by Health Canada as an anesthetic for decades and has been used off-label in mental health care for more than 25 years.
IV ketamine therapy involves administering a carefully controlled dose of ketamine through an intravenous infusion. Each session takes place in a private, calming room within a monitored setting. Our doctor and nurses supervise the infusions and provide support throughout each visit.
Vyepti® (eptinezumab) is a CGRP inhibitor used for migraine prevention in adults. CGRP is a protein involved in migraine attacks, and medications that target this pathway can help reduce migraine frequency.
Ketamine acts on brain pathways involved in mood regulation and stress response. Research suggests it may help restore communication between brain regions affected by depression and trauma.
Unlike traditional antidepressants, which can take several weeks to show benefit, ketamine therapy leads to improvement more quickly.
Before beginning therapy, patients undergo a detailed assessment to determine eligibility.
During each infusion:
Some patients experience temporary changes in perception during the infusion. These effects resolve shortly after treatment.
As ketamine can cause temporary drowsiness or altered awareness, patients must arrange transportation home following each session.
Ketamine therapy is most effective when integrated into a broader mental health care plan. Preparation before treatment and follow-up support are recommended to help patients process their experience and maintain long-term benefit.
Comprehensive ketamine therapy for depression and PTSD is provided through our affiliated Toronto clinic:
